Canada claims that Shah may have been involved in orchestrating violence against Sikh separatists on Canadian soil, including the alleged murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent Sikh separatist, in British Columbia in 2023. The latest escalation involves Canadian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister David Morrison’s testimony, where he reportedly identified Shah as the senior Indian official connected to an alleged intelligence campaign targeting Sikh separatists in Canada. India has also raised concerns about Canada allegedly harboring extremist elements under the guise of freedom of expression.
