Starting February 17, 2025, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) will enforce new FASTag regulations to enhance toll collection efficiency and curb fraudulent activities. To avoid penalties and ensure seamless travel, FASTag users must adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Maintain Sufficient Balance: Ensure your FASTag account has adequate funds well before approaching toll plazas. Transactions will be declined if the FASTag has been blacklisted or has a low balance for more than 60 minutes before reaching the toll booth. Additionally, if the tag remains inactive within 10 minutes after scanning, the transaction will also be rejected. Non-compliance may result in being charged twice the toll fee as a penalty.
2. Update KYC Details: FASTag accounts that are three to five years old must have their Know Your Customer (KYC) information updated by October 31, 2024. Accounts older than five years require replacement. Failure to comply may lead to account blacklisting, causing inconveniences at toll plazas.
3. Link Vehicle Information: All FASTags must be linked to the vehicle’s registration number, chassis number, and the owner’s mobile number. For new vehicle purchases, update the registration number on the FASTag within 90 days to comply with regulations.
4. Upload Vehicle Photographs: Users are required to upload clear images of their vehicle, including the front, side, and the FASTag affixed to it. This step ensures proper identification and tracking of the vehicle associated with the FASTag.
5. Link Mobile Number: Each FASTag must be connected to the owner’s mobile number. This linkage is vital for effective communication between FASTag providers and users, ensuring timely updates and notifications.
