Ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections scheduled for October 5, 2024, both the Congress and BJP are facing internal struggles over finalizing their candidates. The BJP, which recently announced its first list of 67 candidates, is grappling with significant discontent among its ranks. The announcement has sparked a wave of resignations, with senior leaders and sitting MLAs quitting after being denied tickets.
Notable resignations include Minister Ranjit Chautala, who plans to contest as an independent from the Rania constituency. The BJP has also seen defections, with Ratia MLA Laxman Dass Napa joining Congress after being excluded from the party’s list. Other resignations came from prominent figures like Bishamber Valmiki and Karan Dev Kamboj, expressing discontent with the party’s choices.
Meanwhile, Congress is also moving cautiously in finalizing its candidates, aiming to avoid internal conflicts similar to BJP. The Congress Central Election Committee has cleared 34 names so far and continues its discussions on further seat allotments. As both parties navigate candidate selection, the internal turbulence is likely to impact their electoral strategies
