Wrestler Vinesh Phogat, after joining the Congress party, launched a sharp criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reflecting on the hardships she and fellow athletes faced during their protest against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Phogat, alongside fellow wrestler Bajrang Punia, officially joined Congress on September 6, 2024, during a ceremony in the presence of key party leaders like KC Venugopal and Pawan Khera.
In her speech, Phogat expressed gratitude towards Congress for standing by them during their struggle and acknowledged the party for understanding their “pain and tears” when they were subjected to police action at Jantar Mantar. She strongly condemned the BJP, stating that it was the only major political party that did not support them during their protests.
Phogat vowed to continue her fight for women’s rights and pledged to uphold the same determination in politics as she has in sports. She highlighted that all non-BJP parties empathized with their struggle and promised to work for the betterment of women and athletes across the country
