The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has taken decisive action to curb the growing menace of spam calls across the country. As part of an intensified crackdown, TRAI has blacklisted 50 entities and disconnected 2.75 lakh phone numbers linked to illegal telemarketing activities.
The move comes after TRAI initiated a thorough investigation to identify and eliminate the sources of unsolicited and fraudulent calls that have been plaguing consumers. The blacklisted entities were found to be repeatedly violating telecommunication norms, including making unsolicited commercial calls without proper registration.
In addition to disconnecting these numbers, TRAI has also introduced stricter regulations to prevent such activities in the future. Telecom operators have been instructed to enhance their screening processes and to ensure that only registered and compliant entities can use their networks for commercial purposes.
The regulatory body is also working on a series of new measures to further protect consumers, including more robust penalties for violators and improved mechanisms for reporting spam calls.
This crackdown is part of TRAI’s ongoing efforts to improve the telecom experience for consumers by significantly reducing the frequency of spam calls. The agency continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious or unsolicited calls they receive.
