The BJP’s preparation for the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections is heating up with significant political maneuvers, including the announcement of their second list of candidates. This second list follows a trend established by the first list, which already sparked a political uproar with multiple resignations from the party and rebellion within its ranks.
One of the key reasons for discontent is the exclusion of seven sitting MLAs, including two ministers, from the party’s initial list of candidates. Among those dropped are prominent names, including Health Minister Kamal Gupta from Hisar, a region where tensions were already simmering due to party’s choices. The rebellion within the party is growing, with some leaders planning to contest as independents.
Additionally, many leaders within the BJP have been pushing for tickets for their family members, which goes against the party’s official stance on avoiding dynastic politics. This has led to internal dissent, with complaints arising particularly after Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh’s daughter Arti and Rajya Sabha member Kiran Chaudhary’s daughter Shruti were granted tickets.
Amidst these internal challenges, the BJP faces opposition from sitting party leaders upset over the inclusion of recent members in key seats, such as Shakti Rani Sharma, who only joined the party a few days ago and was selected to contest from Kalka. Furthermore, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s decision to shift constituencies has caused further unrest within party ranks.
These developments suggest that the BJP will face a tough electoral battle, not only against opposition parties but also in managing internal factions and dissenters.
