At a rally in Gurez, Jammu & Kashmir, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh delivered a powerful speech, emphasizing India’s commitment to peace and development in the region. Addressing a gathering of local residents and security forces, Singh contrasted India’s rising global stature with Pakistan’s economic downfall. He asserted that India would have extended more financial support to Pakistan than the International Monetary Fund (IMF) if Pakistan had fostered positive bilateral relations with India, instead of nurturing terrorism.

Key Highlights of the Speech

1. Indo-Pak Relations and Economic Assistance

Singh’s statement, “We would have given more money to Pakistan than the IMF,” was a bold reminder of how India could have been a partner to Pakistan in its economic recovery. However, he stressed that Pakistan’s support for terrorism has soured any prospect of cooperative relations. He further highlighted that Pakistan’s instability, fueled by terror groups, has not only hurt its own citizens but also created challenges for global peace and security.

2. Criticism of Pakistan’s Economic Crisis

Singh touched on Pakistan’s current economic predicament, describing it as a consequence of poor governance and wrong priorities. He noted that despite repeated bailouts from international agencies like the IMF, Pakistan remains unable to stabilize its economy. In stark contrast, he hailed India’s growing economic strength, pointing to robust growth, a stable democratic system, and the country’s increasing global influence.

3. India’s Development Focus in J&K

The Defence Minister also focused on the central government’s ongoing efforts to develop Jammu & Kashmir. Since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, the region has witnessed significant infrastructural development, including improvements in connectivity, healthcare, and education. Singh reiterated that the government is committed to ensuring peace and prosperity for the people of J&K, making the region a model of growth and stability in contrast to the deteriorating situation in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

4. Security Forces’ Role in Ensuring Stability

Praising the Indian armed forces for their relentless efforts in safeguarding Jammu & Kashmir, Singh highlighted their success in curbing terrorism in the region. He credited the improved security situation to their sacrifices, asserting that India has zero tolerance for terrorism and infiltration attempts from across the border. He reassured the people of J&K that the government and security forces are working together to ensure long-term peace.

5. Message to the Youth

Singh also directed part of his speech to the youth of Jammu & Kashmir, urging them not to be misguided by external forces trying to radicalize them. He encouraged them to take part in the ongoing development projects and emphasized the opportunities being created in education, entrepreneurship, and public services. According to Singh, the youth of J&K are integral to India’s vision of a prosperous future.

6. Pakistan’s Continued Sponsorship of Terrorism

Rajnath Singh did not hold back when criticizing Pakistan for its continued support of terrorist organizations. He expressed disappointment that Pakistan has chosen the path of hostility and extremism over peace and progress. Despite global pressure and the evident damage to its own society and economy, Singh said that Pakistan continues to harbor terror groups that target India and other neighboring nations.

7. Pakistan’s Global Isolation

He further pointed out that Pakistan is becoming increasingly isolated on the global stage due to its refusal to dismantle terror infrastructure. This isolation is reflected in its shrinking support from traditional allies, declining foreign investment, and continuous dependence on foreign aid. Singh emphasized that the world now sees India as a responsible global power, while Pakistan struggles with internal crises and reputational damage due to its links with terrorism.

8. Appeal for Peace

Singh concluded his speech with a call for peace, stating that India has always been willing to engage in dialogue if Pakistan ends its support for terrorism. He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of peaceful coexistence with neighbors, but made it clear that peace can only be achieved when terrorism is completely eradicated.

Conclusion

Rajnath Singh’s speech in Jammu & Kashmir underscored India’s development trajectory and its determination to combat terrorism while expressing the possibility of improved Indo-Pak relations if Pakistan changes its course. The speech was a blend of national pride, a call for vigilance, and hope for a future where regional peace prevails over conflict.
