Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his recent remarks on reservation during a speech at Georgetown University in the U.S. Shah expressed that Gandhi’s statements revealed the Congress party’s divisive stance on issues like regionalism, religion, and language. Specifically, Gandhi suggested that India should only consider scrapping reservations when the country becomes fair and equitable, a comment that sparked political backlash.
Shah labeled these remarks as “anti-national” and indicative of Congress’s attempt to stir divisions within the country. He further emphasized that the BJP would not allow the abolition of reservations or compromise on national security. Shah’s remarks were delivered in a series of tweets, where he accused Gandhi of frequently siding with forces that seek to weaken India’s unity.
In response to the growing controversy, Gandhi later clarified his position, stating that his remarks were misinterpreted and reaffirmed his commitment to increasing reservations rather than opposing them. Nonetheless, the issue has escalated tensions between the Congress and the BJP, with each side accusing the other of political opportunism
