Congress leader Rahul Gandhi began his three-day visit to the United States on September 8, 2024, with a warm reception at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Texas. Members of the Indian diaspora and the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) enthusiastically welcomed him, signaling strong support from Indian expatriates. This is his first U.S. trip since becoming the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha after the 2024 Indian general elections.
Rahul Gandhi, in a social media post, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am truly delighted by the warm welcome I’ve received from the Indian diaspora and the members of the Indian Overseas Congress.” He added that he looks forward to engaging in “meaningful discussions” aimed at strengthening the bond between India and the U.S. His visit is filled with meetings and interactions with various groups, including academics, journalists, think-tank representatives, business leaders, and technocrats.
During his time in the U.S., Gandhi will attend events in Dallas, Texas, and Washington, D.C. Highlights include engagements at Georgetown University, interactions with the local press, and discussions with political leaders and the business community. The IOC chairperson, Sam Pitroda, emphasized the significance of these interactions, particularly for members of the Indian diaspora, who have shown immense interest in Gandhi’s visit (ABP Live)(Telegraph India).
This visit is expected to not only enhance ties between India and the U.S. but also strengthen Gandhi’s rapport with the Indian diaspora, a key group that plays a vital role in fostering bilateral relations.
