Morne Morkel, the former South African pacer, has officially joined Team India as their new bowling coach ahead of the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Morkel’s appointment is seen as a major move to strengthen India’s fast-bowling unit as the team prepares for a grueling season that includes 10 Test matches against top teams like Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia.
Morkel, who previously worked with Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL and has experience coaching with Pakistan and Durban Super Giants, takes over the role from former India bowler Paras Mhambrey. He arrived in Chennai, where the team is currently in a preparatory camp for the first Test against Bangladesh, which is scheduled to begin on September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The BCCI shared photos of Morkel and the squad as they gear up for the home series.
Morkel’s vast experience—spanning 86 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 44 T20Is with over 500 international wickets—will be crucial in guiding India’s bowling attack during this critical phase of their home season
