In a heated rally in Haryana, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, accusing them of betraying the welfare of the people and relying on “lies” to maintain power. Speaking in Charkhi Dadri, Kharge criticized Modi for making grand promises that were never fulfilled, including the often-cited Rs 15 lakh deposit in every Indian’s bank account and the creation of 2 crore jobs per year. He highlighted how these promises had become symbols of the BJP’s failed governance during the last decade.
Kharge emphasized that Modi had mastered the art of deception, noting, “Modi ji toh bharosa todne walo ka bhi sardar hai” (Modi is the leader of those who break trust). He accused the BJP of misleading the public with false promises and empty rhetoric, questioning where the 20 crore jobs promised over the last ten years had disappeared. He further pointed out that despite the BJP’s promises, 1.60 lakh government posts in Haryana remain vacant.
The Congress leader also criticized the Modi government’s approach to the Constitution, warning that the BJP, if re-elected for a third term, might seek to amend or even rewrite it. He pointed to remarks made by senior BJP and RSS leaders, suggesting that the government could alter the nation’s foundational document if they garnered enough power. This, he said, was a dangerous precedent that threatened the country’s democratic fabric.
Kharge didn’t spare the Haryana government either, criticizing Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for his failures during his nine-and-a-half-year tenure. He stated that the BJP’s decision to replace Khattar indicated that even they recognized their failures in governance. This change in leadership, according to Kharge, was a tacit admission that the party had been unable to fulfill its promises(Telegraph India).
The rally came just days before the Haryana assembly elections, scheduled for October 5. Kharge was joined by senior Congress leaders like Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Satya Pal Malik, who echoed his sentiments. As the political battle heats up, Kharge reiterated that the Congress party, unlike the BJP, stands by its commitments, urging the public to remember the achievements of previous Congress governments and give them another chance.
Kharge’s speech serves as a focal point in the Congress party’s broader campaign strategy, which seeks to expose the BJP’s unkept promises and advocate for the welfare of the common people. By leveraging themes of unemployment, constitutional threats, and governance failures, Kharge and the Congress aim to sway public opinion ahead of the crucial elections in Haryana.
