In a shocking incident in Kentucky, seven people were shot on Saturday along a rural stretch of Interstate 75, near the town of London in Laurel County. The shooting occurred around 6 p.m., with authorities still searching for the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Joseph A. Couch, who is considered “armed and dangerous.” The shots were reportedly fired from a wooded area or an overpass, targeting passing vehicles on the highway.
While the victims, all of whom were taken to the hospital, are in stable condition, the authorities are conducting a large-scale manhunt in the rugged terrain near the Daniel Boone National Forest. The police have urged residents to stay indoors and keep their doors locked until the suspect is apprehended.
Mayor Randall Weddle of London, Kentucky, warned locals to remain vigilant while police search the heavily wooded area. The stretch of highway near Exit 49, where the shooting took place, was temporarily closed but has since reopened, even though the suspect remains on the run.
Authorities, including the Kentucky State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are working together to track down the fugitive. Residents are urged to contact the local 911 center if they have any information regarding the whereabouts of Joseph A. Couch.
This incident is the latest in a series of gun-related violence in the U.S., raising concerns about public safety on highways. The police are expected to release more information as the investigation continues (ABC17NEWS)
