West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her willingness to resign amid an ongoing standoff with junior doctors protesting the handling of a sensitive issue at RG Kar Medical College. The doctors have been demanding a live-streamed meeting with the Chief Minister, which she has refused due to the sub-judice status of the case. Despite waiting for two hours to meet with them, the junior doctors did not attend the scheduled talks.
In a virtual address, Mamata emphasized her readiness to step down for the sake of the people, stating, “I am not concerned about the post; I only care about justice.” She also expressed regret for the ongoing deadlock, which has affected healthcare services, with 27 deaths and 7 lakh patients suffering due to the protests.
Mamata reiterated her efforts to engage with the junior doctors, having made multiple attempts to resolve the situation. However, she maintained that while the meeting could not be live-streamed, she was open to recording the session with permission from the Supreme Court. Despite the doctors’ absence, she refrained from taking any punitive action against them, stressing the need for dialogue to resolve the impasse.
The conflict remains unresolved, with the doctors standing firm on their demand for transparency in the proceedings
