A major gunfight broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Udhampur district of Jammu & Kashmir early today, leading to the elimination of three militants. The encounter began after a tip-off regarding the presence of terrorists in the region, prompting joint operations by the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police.
According to sources, the gunfight took place in the Gordi area of Udhampur, where security forces cordoned off the suspected hideout. The militants, upon being challenged, opened fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. All three terrorists were neutralized, and the area has since been secured.
Preliminary reports suggest that the terrorists were heavily armed and had been planning to target key locations. Security personnel recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the site, including rifles, grenades, and other equipment.
The identities and affiliations of the terrorists are yet to be confirmed, and authorities are investigating possible links with terror outfits operating in the region. The area is being searched thoroughly for any remaining threats.
This encounter comes amid heightened security measures in Jammu & Kashmir, as intelligence agencies have been warning of increased infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC).
