In a political twist, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s announcement to resign within two days has triggered strong reactions from both the BJP and Congress. The BJP immediately questioned why Kejriwal was waiting two days to dissolve his cabinet, speculating that he is using the time to convince MLAs to install his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, as the next CM. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticized this delay, calling it a “political strategy.” AAP’s Atishi clarified that the delay was due to Sunday and an upcoming holiday(mint).
Meanwhile, Congress termed Kejriwal’s move a “drama” designed to gain public sympathy. The opposition has raised concerns over the timing and speculated on early elections in Delhi, which Kejriwal has also hinted at, seeking a fresh mandate from the people.
The BJP has further accused Kejriwal of making a virtue out of necessity following legal pressures, as a recent Supreme Court order restricted his authority over the chief minister’s office. The BJP claims this forced Kejriwal’s resignation, using the delay as an opportunity to solidify internal plans within AAP.
Kejriwal, however, remains firm on his decision to resign, stating that he will not return to the CM’s chair unless the people give him a “certificate of honesty.” Both BJP and Congress continue to press for clarity, while speculation grows about who will replace him as Delhi’s chief minister (mint).
