Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran does not seek war, despite the escalating tensions in the region. Speaking during a joint press conference with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran values peace and security in West Asia, aligning its stance with the collective interest of all Muslim nations. He pointed out that conflict hinders progress, and Iran’s focus is on fostering regional stability rather than engaging in war.
However, Pezeshkian clarified that while Iran seeks peace, it will not hesitate to respond to provocations. He specifically blamed Israel for instigating tensions, citing the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31, 2024, and Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s death in a recent Israeli airstrike in Beirut. In response to these incidents, Iran launched missile strikes on Israeli military and security installations on October 1, 2024, as a warning.
The Iranian president also urged the international community, particularly the U.S. and European nations, to pressure Israel to cease its aggressive actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and the West Bank. Pezeshkian warned that while Iran has exercised restraint, continued Israeli attacks could force a more severe response, threatening broader regional security.
Qatar’s Emir echoed Pezeshkian’s sentiments, advocating for de-escalation and calling for an end to Israel’s military actions. He reiterated Qatar’s commitment to mediating peace in the region, including efforts to end the Gaza conflict and negotiate the release of captives held in Palestinian territories.
Iran’s stance reflects a desire to prevent further escalation while remaining prepared to defend itself against external threats. Pezeshkian underscored that the Zionist regime’s actions aim to destabilize the region, and Iran, alongside its allies, is determined to prevent the spread of insecurity(IRNA English).
