During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States, a memorable moment unfolded at the “Modi and US” community event held at Nassau Coliseum in New York on September 22, 2024. Among the performers who took the stage was rising rapper Hanumankind, born Sooraj Cherukat, whose vibrant performance quickly captured the audience’s attention. PM Modi, known for his connection with artists and appreciation of cultural diversity, greeted the rapper warmly, saying “Jai Hanuman” before embracing him in a heartfelt gesture.

Hanumankind, a Kerala-born artist now making waves in the hip-hop scene, delivered an electrifying performance that went viral, marking a significant moment in his career. His unique blend of global sounds—stemming from his upbringing in Houston, Texas—and desi influences has made him a standout in the music industry. With tracks like “Big Dawgs” and “Rush Hour,” Hanumankind has earned recognition for his dynamic style, incorporating both his Indian roots and the broader, global hip-hop culture.

PM Modi’s acknowledgment of Hanumankind during the event underscored the global appeal of Indian talent. The Prime Minister’s interaction with the rapper, captured in several viral videos, further elevated the excitement surrounding the event. After the performance, Modi personally met Hanumankind on stage, praising his talent and contribution to the musical celebration of India’s cultural diversity.

In addition to Hanumankind, the event also featured performances by renowned artists Aditya Gadhvi and Devi Sri Prasad. Gadhvi, known for his hit song “Khalasi,” and Prasad, a celebrated composer with credits in blockbuster Indian films, brought their musical prowess to the stage. Together, these artists showcased the breadth of talent from India, captivating an audience of over 13,500 people(India Today)(FilmiBeat).

The “Modi and US” event was a vibrant celebration of Indian culture, with members of the Indian diaspora and prominent figures from various fields coming together to honor India’s achievements on the global stage. Modi’s embrace of the rapper, followed by the joyful chant of “Jai Hanuman,” served as a symbol of the unity between Indian tradition and modern artistry, a moment that highlighted the Prime Minister’s deep connection with the people.

As Modi’s tour of the U.S. continues to draw attention, his interaction with Hanumankind is set to be remembered as a key moment from his visit, a gesture that resonated with both the artist and the wider community.
