Apple is set to fully transition all its iPhone models to OLED displays by 2025, marking a significant shift away from the LCD screens that have been used in some of its more affordable models like the iPhone SE. OLED, which stands for Organic Light-Emitting Diode, offers superior picture quality, thinner screens, and better energy efficiency compared to LCDs.
This change will have substantial implications for Japanese suppliers like Japan Display (JDI) and Sharp, which have historically provided LCDs for Apple. With Apple’s complete shift to OLED, these companies will lose their place in Apple’s supply chain for iPhone screens. Instead, Apple will source its OLED displays from companies like Samsung, LG Display, and BOE Technology from China.
The shift to OLED has been part of Apple’s strategy since the iPhone X in 2017, and this move to make OLED standard across all iPhone models aligns with the broader industry trend toward higher-quality displays (India Today,Business Standard).
