Remo D’Souza and Others Charged with Cheating Dance Troupe of ₹11.96 Crore
In a shocking turn of events, renowned choreographer Remo D’Souza, along with his wife Lizelle and five others, has been charged with cheating a dance troupe of ₹11.96 crore in Maharashtra’s Thane district. The complaint, filed by a 26-year-old dancer, led to the registration of a case at the Mira Road police station on October 16, 2024. The allegations against the accused involve serious criminal charges, including forgery and cheating under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the dancer and his troupe claim they were victims of deceit from 2018 until July 2024. The troupe had participated in a popular television dance competition where they emerged victorious, winning a significant prize of ₹11.96 crore. However, the accused allegedly impersonated the group and wrongfully claimed the prize money on their behalf.
The complainant detailed that during the period of their performances, the accused presented themselves as the rightful owners of the dance troupe, thus misappropriating the funds that rightfully belonged to the performers. This betrayal not only involved financial deceit but also emotional and psychological manipulation, given the hard work and dedication the troupe put into their craft.
The FIR names Remo D’Souza and his wife Lizelle as primary accused in this case. D’Souza is a prominent figure in the Indian entertainment industry, known for his choreography, directing, and television appearances. His involvement in this case has shocked many fans and followers, raising questions about integrity and accountability in the entertainment sector.
The other accused in the case include Omprakash Shankar Chouhan, Rohit Jadhav, Frame Production Company, Vinod Raut—a police officer—and Ramesh Gupta. The inclusion of a police officer in the list of accused has further complicated the case, suggesting a potential network of complicity that facilitated the alleged fraud.
While the allegations against D’Souza and others remain unproven until the conclusion of the investigation, the impact of this case could resonate throughout the industry, prompting discussions about ethics and practices in dance and entertainment. As more details emerge, the case will undoubtedly attract significant media attention, keeping the public and industry insiders keenly interested in the proceedings.
The case against Remo D’Souza and his associates marks a significant moment in the Indian entertainment landscape, raising important questions about the treatment of artists and the need for integrity in the industry. As the investigation unfolds, the outcome will not only determine the fate of those accused but will also serve as a pivotal moment for the dance community and the broader entertainment sector in India. Stakeholders will be watching closely as the legal process moves forward, hoping for a fair resolution that protects the rights of performers while holding those in positions of power accountable for their actions.
