Former President Donald Trump was reported safe following an attempted shooting at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, September 15, 2024. The incident involved a gunman armed with an AK-47 who targeted Trump while he played golf at the Trump International Golf Club. Secret Service agents spotted the gunman, who was positioned behind bushes near the course. The agents fired several rounds to ward off the assailant, who then fled the scene without returning fire.
The suspect, later identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, was apprehended about 45 minutes north of the golf club. Authorities discovered the rifle, two backpacks, and a GoPro camera near the bushes where the suspect had been hiding. The incident is being investigated as a possible assassination attempt, the second such attempt on Trump in two months.

Trump confirmed his safety in a public statement, reassuring supporters that he was unharmed and continuing his routine despite the threat. Both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris condemned the violence, with Biden emphasizing that political violence has no place in the country.
Law enforcement is continuing to investigate, with the FBI leading the inquiry into the failed attack (The Independent)(TheWrap).
